Canyon Ridge - Herb & Garlic Beef Sirloin Roast

I picked this up from Wally World for just $7 bucks. It's made by Mountain City Meat Company. This is seasoned, boneless and 1.5 pounds of sirloin roast. I think it's a pretty good price for it's size and it looks really tasty.

The instructions say to preheat my oven to 325, make a slit in the top of the bag. Upon doing so I immediately got a wonderful smell of rosemary. I am supposed to bake the beef until the timer pops up.

There's one problem in this whole system. About how long am I supposed to fucking wait?! Do I need to keep checking this mother fucker every 2 minutes to see if it's done?! When the fuck am I supposed to start cooking my mashed fucking potatoes and vegetables so I can have my whole meal done at the same time, nice and warm?! I see at least one other person shares my opinion on their packaging, but he didn't comment on how the food tastes.

I put it in my oven at 5:19PM. Unfortunately, I can't find any pictures of the packaging on the web, so once my food is done cooking I'll come back and let you know approximately how long mine took and I'll provide some pictures and a review of how it tastes. If it's good I'm willing to overlook the packaging error, because I feel this is a good price, but am going to shoot them an email shortly. Hopefully they can correct this to save other people frustration.

.. review of actual taste to come shortly..

Okay, so it took roughly 50 minutes to cook. At 6:08PM I noticed the timer was popped out. I decided to make some instant mashed potatoes, since the sirloin says to let cool for 15 minutes before slicing.

Here's a cutout of how it looked..

.. excuse me for the bad image cut job. So, it doesn't exactly look as good as the picture on the box, but the inside did. The edge was a little more done than I'd like, but the middle was pink just like the box. I actually think it was cooked perfect. The flavor was very good. The spices and rosemary were very noticeable.

The box claims it serves six people. I'd say it would be right if you had a bunch of side dishes and stuff. I'd say more realistically it serves 4 to 5 people nicely with your side dishes.

  1. Thank you so much for this post. I just bought this deliciously looking roast, went to cook it and realized I had no idea for how long! I will use your estimate of 50 minutes.

  3. I bought a second one, the second one took a few minutes longer, so I think 50 minutes is a good estimate. I think I can safely walk away for at least 45 minutes and not have to worry.

I googled the maker to figure out how long to cook it.....glad to see I am not the only one!

  5. I also picked this roast up at walmart. I also do not believe this is a cooking bag, it started to stick to the beef, and where the hell is the friggin pop up timer. Who the hell does their marketing they ought to be fired.

  7. Thank You! Went Online looking for a time to cook and found your post. I was disappointed that it was enhanced with only 8% solution. I would have liked 10% solution but I'll give it a try.

  9. Isn't it funny how you feel good about other people being as stupid as you are? Bought the roast and never read the directions. Thank God for yuppicide, an honest man!

  10. Thanks, funny post and we were happy to get an approximation of cooking time. It's crazy that anyone would market this packaging without cooking time.

  13. First off...thanks for taking the time to write a post!

Unfortunately, mine was over done at 45 min, must have gotten a small one...Recommend checking at 30 min then every 5 - 10 min after that. Regardless your post was still waaaay more helpful then the dang package!

Not bad for a pre-seasoned meat...

  14. Guess I'm in the same boat as everyone else, huh? I'm sending an e-mail too. It's been nearly a year since your original post and still no hint of a cooking time on the packaging. Thanks for taking the time to blog about it! -- jan

  15. Thanks. I cooked mine 50 min including preheat time and it was a litle overcooked. Tasted fine though and I would buy again. I was also wonderin' about the cooking time and also about the timer and plastic bag. Since they didn't show pic of the timer on the package and I couldn't see it through the bag I was wonderin whether we were supposed to use our own or what. I guess the extra plastic end is supposed to be kept under the roast to use as a timer. I had no idea. Also cooking something in plastic didn't seem right either and the instructions were so sparse. Is it that hard to write complete instructions with a decent image?

  16. Thanks so much for the post. I read and re-read the box thinking I was missing the cooking time...can't beleive they didn't put it on there. Glad I wasn't the only one.

  18. Here we are a year later and still no instructions on the box! Thanks for your post I was glad it came up on a search. In a time where usually there are far too many instructions on things that seem obvious, it is nice to know I'm not the only one that thinks the lack of information on this product is Crazy!

  19. Thanks for all the comments.. specially Brad and Bev. It's nice to know yours took less to cook, so others know to beware.. so now we can probably safely say at least 30 minutes you can walk away and not worry.

I watched a Thanksgiving show on television that says you can't really rely on those pop-up timer too much for turkey. Don't know how that information holds up for this. The turkey timers have a little red stick or something in them, covered by some kind of material. This material melts when heated to a certain degree, which frees the red stick to pop up.

Maybe I'll make a call to the company. I mean, other than the timer everyone seems to have praise for the actual product itself.

  20. Hmm.. I see the company that makes it is just a processing plant. Maybe they're specially made just for Wally World. I've never seen them any place else. Maybe they're the people to contact about the box, not Mountain City Meat.

  21. Hey! I just bought another one and they have approx time on it now.. it's listed as 50 - 60 minutes.

I want to thank the company if they're reading this and all of you for your responses.

I will have a picture shortly of the back of the package and maybe I'll take a better picture of the food.
